welcome to fordmods.
5l ghia im so jeolous.
ok so you can go for a lot off different mods but for under a grand theres not a great deal.
you could start with extractors and 2 1/2 inch sport exhaust. or a new cam. cold air intake. shift kit etc

well it already has a CAI ( can u get a K&N air filter for a el?) and a 2 1/2 system on it (cat back) would extractors do much? i got a shift kit in my old vn and i wasnt very happy with it so i'm not going down that road again. well say if i was to spend 2 grand on a mod what should i get and how much of a difference would it make

Yeah you can get a k&n filter for the ef/el
Extractors give you more power as well as torque.

First thing to do with a $1000 dolllars would have to be a nice set of extractors to replace those nasty standard exhaust manifolds IMO. Pacemakers, genies, hurricanes etc will all be fine, personally i am running pacemakers atm and before that had the EL GT style headers and was more than happy with them as they came standard on the 185kw EL's and XH Xr8's
This will basically take up your thousand dollars. Extractors themselves should be around $650 mark and exhaust shops usually want bout 250 or so to fit them as they can be a pain in the a*** for some, i fitted mine myself which saved me some $$$.

your EL probably has the E7 heads, and the crappy intake manifold.
GT40p Heads ~ $600
Extractors/Exhaust ~ $1200
Explorer Intake ~ $600
probably get them installed as well for under 3g total.

someone correct me if my prices are off.

The Pod can fit just do a search, but id just get the K&N Panel filter.

Right on the money. The above is the best way do modify an E7 headed, HO intaked windsor for $3000.
I'd also just go for the K&N panel filter too instead of the pod, both do the same job just theres no hassles with the panel filter. Also if ya gonna run a K&N be prepared to regularly clean your MAF hotwires as they will get coated with oil from the filter.

As it is now, i'd say you should have 160kw@f/wheel, after the above mods you should be looking at 200kw@f/wheel.
Very good in my opinion, best mods you could possibly do to that car to get it puttin out some decent power.
