Hey everyone. Bought an alloy tailshaft not long ago and it is just sitting in my garage...it is however starting to form some rust on the end which goes into the output shaft of the transmission...how do I go about removing this rust, is it necessary to do so?

just use one of those Jex pad things mums use is the kitchen, like the wirey kinda stuff. Either that or some fine sand paper will fix it up.

Yeah get rid of it, keep the sucker clean. Just apply some lube oil or oil of some type just as a thin film to prevent rust, works a charm. Just try not to get dirt in the oil.

Just use a scotch pad (scouring pad) dont rub it along the slip flange (rub around it) Spray it with some WD-40 or similar. The very worst it can do is chew out the extension casing seal on the trans if not a clean smooth surface.

And after you've cleaned it and applied oil, grease, etc, put a plastic bag over it and tape it up. Keeps dust, rubbish, etc off.
Then when you're ready to use it, you can remove the tape and bag.

Can't believe it's started to rust so quickly! You only took it out a week or so ago!

hehehe yeah. I should really put it in quick. Rust does react instantly just depends how much. Well thanks for all the help. Will use something to get rid of the rust, clean it with something non-rust causing, and then dip it in some oil and wrap it up with a plastic bag. phong =P~
