1st and 3rd only is usually an indication of a broken band in the trans.
I've know people to drive like that for months and it was fine. Just a s**t drive and lots of thumping from the auto. At least it will give you time to start saving for a new trans! |

just went through a similar thing with my eb the 2nd/4th gear band disintergrated but was still drivable but being a v8 boxes are hard to come by. and not cheap i would have gone manual but the price was prohibitive

my box got that bad at one point, i went to put it in reverse, near a huge drain doing a 3 point turn and the f**k would engage reverse, foot flat too the floor rolling towards a big drop off, then clunk reverse engages lol

after my experience with EB -ED box's i got an EL auto with 97,000 on it, and i will have a dipstick put in while its not in the car, and i run a huge cooler, it should be sweet
although in sayin that my EB1 fairmont box TOOK EVERYTHING up until it got written off. about 70,000km of complete thrashing had 1 service and the shop said its in top condition and it was at 220,000 when i had the service done. but i find the EF-EL box's maybe smoother ?? i love the auto in my dads EF its mint , and all we do is thrash that car and its just clocked over 260,000km/h no rough shifts, no flareing nothing so i think the EL box should be good anyway. funny how i say their smoother and im getting a shift kit lol anyway..... what r others experience with these box's? and what they can take?
