well...
i have a problem. when its all hooked up i only get a trigger from pin 53 and the fans only run on low speed. no matter how hot it gets the other wire from pin 33 does not trigger the fans at all. so for some reason there is no trigger from pin 33 i think there is a ecu fault..... so until i work out the problem i'll connect the fans back to the davis craig thermo switch... |

HMMM, well how hot is your temp getting? My fans stay on at low speed but because down here it's a bit colder at the moment, it doesn't go past the "N" on the word NORMAL. If you want to check the higher speed operation, I had to turn car off for about 5 minutes, then turned AC button on, and started car. The fans went to high speed for about a minute and then back to low speed.
You probably already did, but did you put a multimeter on the wire coming out of pin 33? Because when I initially wired it up, the connection into the relay itself was dodgy, so I used another one of those small connector things to squash wire in and put back into relay holder and it then worked, possibly coz I was doing it at 11PM Wednesday night Let me know how you go |

i let the temp get up to the h before i shut it down and nothing .
just low speed .. and low speed isnt enough to keep it cool when stationary even when i put the air con on there is no change ive double checked the conections at the relay end and the ecu end.. so im back to where i started.. |

UMM, could quite possibly be an ECU fault then, possibly a relay, but then again, a relay either works or doesn't, or your temp sender possibly sending too low of a signal, telling ECU the temp is low when not. Thats all it could be, coz not much else in the way of temp monitoring, is there?

Just thought of something, you have an AU engine, are you using the temp sender from back of engine or the one on the lower thermostat housing? Could they work any differently??
Just thinking of some things could possibly be? I assume they'd be the same, just back of engine would be hotter and should be reading hotter than the one on front. I'll keep thinking and if I come up with something, I'll let you know. |

thanks mate..
im using the sender on the lower thermostat housing.. from what ive checked and tested there seems to be no signal from the ecu... |

agreed! Um, so there is no voltage change from pin 33? Could be ECU faulty. If you got it not too long ago, might be able to swap if you got it from wrecker, otherwise, if can try and source another ECU just to try it out, because after being on Fordmods for all this time, I only just found in Technical Documents how to test fan operation.
I will try it on mine in just a minute, and let you know what happens to mine in diagnostic mode. http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=54[/url] |

Ok, just tested mine, when car is cold first start, I turned on AC and fans come on low speed. I took for a drive to let car warm up and thermostat open, and when I got back, I checked the fans where also running low speed. I let it idle for about 5 mins and the whole time the fans stayed on low speed, with temperature sitting just under the "N" the whole time. I turned car off, then restarted it about one minute later with AC on and fans were on highfor about 30 seconds then back to low speed.
Although, I must be the only one who can't put car in diagnostic mode to check like the TECH DOCO said for fan operation, like in gear fans on in neutral fan off. And like I said, at the moment we are having an 18 degree day overcast, so can't get car hot enough, unless I remove the relays and force car to get hotter than usual, say around the "M" or "A" even and put relays back in and see what happens. |

Also, a bit off topic but while I've got you on the subject of our ECU issues, are you constantly getting you in car air recirculated? I looked in the pinout doco for both EEC-IV and EEC-V and noticed that pin 32 is the recirc solenoid for EEC-IV and on EEC-V it's and LPG shutoff solenoid, or if no LPG fitted, it's nothing (not used)!
It's annoying as on colder nights with wife and kids in car, the windows are that foggy you need to open windows or use AC to clear EDIT: When ignition is on, I can hear the recirc flap under dash moving, and when key is turned off, I can hear it opening. |

still having no luck
the wierd thing is i can put my ecu in self test mode and adjust timing ect and the fans conected im getting fault codes 792= fc2 output check fail.. 783 =serial link output check fail 838 =evaporator sensor short.. with the fans disconected i get codes. 777=drivers cooling fan not operating. 778=pasenger side fan not operating. 783 =serial link output check fail 838= evaporator sensor short.. 791= fc1 output check fail.. 792=fc2 output check fail.. ill leave it as it was before. until i can try another ecu... |

oh
and my aircon is always on recirculate because the arm that operates the vent door is broken so ive got the vent door screwed shut .. mine is operated by vacuum so when i switch the lever from rec to fresh the diaphram does work .. |

hey i know what u mean about the recirculate problem...maybe u are on to sumthing there cos it been buggin me too,,i found that if u do diognostics and clear the codes, then start car and it will work but as soon as u turn the car off and start it again it closes again.
