im having a bit of trouble removing the pins out of the conections in the wiring loom for a fairmont cluster, as i want to rearange them to suit a xr6 type style cluter. i made up a small flat blade type thing to stick down the side of the pins to release them from the plug like any normal plug but they don't want to come out, is there a trick to doing it or something?

in it now is the lcd one which has 2 plugs, the one going in it the one with oil, water, temp and batt gauge, which only needs the one plug and the wires need rearanging.

The EF/EL cluster plugs (dash loom side), have retainers on the plug backs that need unclipping first - they have a hinge type setup.

Then you can release each pin as needed by lifting the individual retainer finger - I've found instrument screwdrivers work best.

Come in from front to release pin retaining 'fingers' - pins remove/insert from the rear.

yer i've tried that, in the plug there are 3 rows of holes, the outside 2 being the on where the pins from the cluster plug into and the middle row which is a bit bigger i guess being the holes you poke the tool in thus pushing the 'fingers' up allowing the pins to come out of the hole. thats how i figure it goes anyway. i'll keep on trying i guess.
