As the title says I have a 95 xr8 and im about to get a set of gears in her, namely a set of 3.7's.
A couple of questions i have. 1. When the gears go in, what calibration is needed for the speedo to read correctly ( speedo gear, ecu possibly?) ? 2. How will this affect gear shifts? ie, Will the car shift at the same rpm and not the same speed? 3.If it does affect shift points, what is needed to recalibrate ? It is going into a EF XR8 auto so any info would be much appreciated.

Yeah changing diff gears means the speedo will be out around 8%, your probably better off going 3.9's instead of 3.7's You need to put a speedo corrector in to correct the cluster (dont change the speedo gear on the trans), theres a way of doing it that will leave the shift points as they are, I also have digital correctors available and can do the installation if need be. |

I changed my diff from 3:08 to 3:45 and Ford told me and supplied, the correct gear to use, no problems whatsoever.Much easier than correction, and cheaper!

Changine the speedo sender gear will affect the shift points, for example if you change an EL with factory 3.08 to 4.35 and also change the speedo gear, then the engine will bounce off the rev limiter way it will change to the next gear.
Using a correctly installed speedo corrector will correct the speedo reading, and leave the shift points as they are. FairmontXR6 is also correct, there are no gears to suit ratio's above 3.45 |
