Does anyone know if you can get LPG on a AU2 2000, XR8, 4.9L,
without it doing any damage, longterm, to the motor?
Do the fords have soft valves.
Any info would be appreciated.

Generally any unleaded engine valves can cope with LPG.

Actually might extend engine life, I used to drive a 5.0L NF with 700,000+km, it is a hire car, injectors stuffed up from lack of use and stayed straight LPG for years until last Friday. Only found out today injectors got replaced.

I am looking into buying it as the company owes me money, he is seriously thinking about selling it and we need a bigger car big time.

yes the LPG will extend engine life without a doubt, why u think taxis run to over 1mill kays? without rebuilds
the combustion gases from lpg are cleaner than petrol and hence cause less wear on engine components.
also it is a lot cleaner fuel ie less emmisions

it will be damn hard to find a xr8 already on gas best bet would be a to convert it aftermarket around 2kish
BUT unless u are doing more than 40,000 kays per yr dont get gas...

the money you save on fuel you should pay off your gas conversion in say 100 years dont do it i have an eb 5.0 on duel fuel and a au 1 xr8 not on gas and its still cheaper to run plus im allways getting the gas fixed aswell and have no boot space the list goes on dont do it your just wrecking a good car keep the gas in the bbq where it belongs

Thanks for the good advice.
I am not going to get the LPG.
You are right about the time it takes to get your money back.

yes it does take time to get your oney back on normal drivinfg but liek i said if you do lots of kays u will save $$

ok eg
30,000km average and 10km/ltr per year average
3000ltrs petrol at 90c per litre = $2700 per yr in petrol
now LPG
30,000 km at 7kms litre ( u travel less per kitre of gas than on petrol )
= 4285 ltres lpg at 45c average= $1928 per yr in gas
at a 2k cost of conversion and a saving of $771 per year that measn 2.8 yrs before u get money back on conversion
now apply the same thign to when you are doing 50,000kms
gas $3214 per yr
petrol $4500 per yr there is a $1600 differece this is wear u save the money in the kays u do and the more kays you do in a yr the more you save!
