Guys
I want to lower my BA XT Classic...However issues are as follows 1. I've put a F6 front bar on which is around 25mm lower than the XR bar. and I'm concerned about scraping on driveways and humps, so I will only drop 25mm to XR height at most 2. I'm getting conflicting information from suspension specialists about the need for a camber kit and new shocks. Some say by going only 1.5 inches I'll get away without a camber kit , while others say its critical. I just spent a fortune on new tyres/wheels and at $280 a pop I don't wanna have to replace the tyres in 3 months, but then agaib don't wanan spend the $240 on a camber kit if I don't have to (Pedders quote) 3. The price quoted for supply and install of lowered springs varies significantly as follows 1. St George tyres $400 using KMac springs (no camber kit) 2. Australias Best Tyre Service $450 using Pedders Springs (no camber kit) 3. Pedders $485 + $220 (I Think) for the camber kit 4. East Coast Suspensions - $600 using Lovells with no camber kit 5. JAX - $600-$650 (unsure which brand) no camber kit Its a bit of a minefield so open to suggestions Heres a pic of the car as it currently stands IMG]http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x278/ozmale42/2007_05200147.jpg[/IMG]

My advice mate is to hit up a proper suspension place. As you said tyres are too expensive to scrub out. My xr6t has a herrod kit under it but it is awfully low . Mines the silver one, the other one is Toddys
BTW mine rides on 19s so probably looks lower than it actually is but on at least one occasion on a particularly bad road I have seen a shower of sparks spewed out from behind

pedders will quote a lot of stuff you dont need,
with lows you should be able to get away without a camber kit. for example on my ED i have LOWS, and its completely out of adjustment on the upper arms, but my alignment is A ok, and i dont chew through tyres

if that was mine i'd find someone on this forum (or other ford realated forums) who has lowered there BA XR6 and i'd buy the old XR springs from them. at least that way you get some comfort aswell.
camber kits are cheap compared to scrubing tyres, you'll also find the ride and handling better if you fit some GOOD shocks at the same time. NOT s**t monroes. some thing like a koni or bilstein |

I coudln't actually tell you which springs are in it but my guess would be something like ultralows. The mechanic at my local dealer said he'd never seen a BA that low before

If its pretty confusing getting different quotes from
different suspension places, its because all of them are using different components.....hard to compare apples with oranges eh ?? I would suggest that you research and source/purchase your own parts then pay for a reputable mechanic to install them. - Springs (Kings, Lovells, Dobinsons) - Shocks (Monroe, KYB, Koni, Bilstein) - Camber Kit (Nolathane) The brands listed are just suggestions, each are a bit different in performance and price. Just ask other people what setup they have, then make your own decision. I followed this process and all worked out well for me.. (My car is an EB, but the theory is the same) All the best. |
