Hello,
I took my father-in-law's wagon for a drive because he asked me about a problem it was having...
Its a tricky one, ill try and explain it

It drives fine up until 1/2 throttle, you can 1/2 throttle off the line and it goes well, if you are at the line, or driving and nail it, it splutters and carries on, and if you keep your foot into it, it seems to come alright and accelerate.
But, if you pull lock low, and slowly ease your foot into it all the way to the floor, its ok

it seems load dependant, the more load, the worse it is.

Also, it doesnt do it every time either, i drove it for about 1/2 an hour, and it only does it maybe 3/4 of the time.

when it doesnt play up, it goes quite well.

I thought transmission might be slipping, so when it played up, i pulled over, and put it into N and revved it and it revved like it was on 5 cylinders..

Has anyone got any ideas??

thanks!
David

have you tried the usual - plugs, leads etc. could be a dodgy plug or lead. could even be dodgy injector. could even be a batch of dirty fuel or something. fuel filters often get forgotten so prolly wouldn't hurt to change that as well.

sorry i can't be of any help. had a ef with random misfire which turned out to be cam angle sensor but el's have dizzy so obviously not that.

we replaced the fuel filter, and he ran injector clean for a few tanks, and he said the problem was not as apparent, but still there..

Its also had new plugs, but i havent checked leads as yet. leads and cap may be my next thing to look at.

thanks
David

Fixed!! Found 2 cracks under the bracket of te ignition coil.. first inspection, looked good, then i tryed some other stuff, and noticed it wasnt the same dead cylinder everytime, so i thought it had to be coil, after replacing the cap and leads.. took the brackets off, and there she was, 2 crackes from hole to hole..
New coil, and bingo, right as rain!!

Thanks guys for the assistance
David

pretty much sums up ford mechanics for me. clearly says he has a el and yet you tell him to replace coil packs. his last post also says he has the problem fixed and what he did to fix it.
