Have just had LPG installed in my EA wagon. First tank of 70L gave me 330KMs. Not bad for $35.00. Not a great loss of power. Cost to do the job? NOTHING!! Picked up 2nd hand kit on eBay for $290, including half size petrol tank and all the other bits. Had tank retested and a new regulator, main gas valve, lines and hoses, plus gas control computer fitted at cost of $1650. Govt rebate of $2000 gave me first tank of gas free! Can't complain about that.

I only put the claim in last Thursday. Was told about two weeks to get refund. Yes you can get the grant on 2nd hand parts but tank must be tested before being fitted. That means its good for 10 years. Needs to be installed by authorised installer and have all the paper work done for the install. Will put a confirmation on here as soon as I get the refund.

Just back from trip to Dubbo. Averaged just on 570 KMs from tank of gas.
Cant complain about that. Pity some outlets are pushing price of LPG up when petrol goes up. I filled up today at a Freedom servo for 47.9 cents/litre. A few hundred metres away Woolworths were around 10/l dearer.
We are very happy with the performance and recommend LPG to anyone keen to save a bit of money.

Finally got our refund!!!

First application was rejected due to invoice for installation being in my name and application done in wifes name!!!

Point here being GET ALL DETAILS SPOT ON.

I was told by customer service person at Medicare that details must be 101% accurate. Not the fault of Medicare so be sure to dot the I's and cross the T's.

Was granted the full $2000 even though installation cost was $1650 and I did not need to show any invoice for the purchase of the parts which in my case was $290.

Now getting approx 400KM around town. Average $35 to fill.

Engine runs smoother on gas and power loss is so small we don't really notice it.

Cheers and Go Gas!!

Hope this is okay but I am so impressed by the job done on my wagon.

Anyone looking for gas installer in Brisbane I recommend Carb and Gas at Woolloongabba. Nice tidy job and went beyond normal service to complete my install on day promised. Finished at 8.30pm!!! Car has not missed a beat and starts easy. What more can one ask?

I have no connection whatsoever with them.

Congrats ausdealer :D.

Btw, you mentioned a half size petrol tank, is that standard with lpg kits? I'm planning on selling my forte and upgrading to an au fairmont ghia v8, to which I want to get it converted asap. I was planning on going 100% lpg because I want to follow my dream of having quad tip on an AU v8, which obviously means removing the petrol tank. Only problem is should I run out of gas I'd need to get towed to the servo. But this half size petrol tank, by the sounds of means I could have both lpg+petrol and quad tip setup?

AFAIK there are 3 options for tanks in wagons.
1- multiple scuba style tanks (retain full size petrol)
2- Cut petrol , large 70L gas tank
3- doughnut tank in place of spare wheel

AFAIK the cut tank gives you the biggest gas capacity.
All require relocation of the spare wheel :(

It's nice to hear that someone has managed to get the rebate for fitting up s/h lpg hardware to their car. Because when push comes to shove, it doesn't matter if the hardware is new or old, the conversion on THAT car is new with a new compliance plate.

It's also nice to hear that it can be done for the amount of the current rebate. I might be able to talk my g/f into buying the ED off me and getting it converted. :D

I just wish the rebate was around years ago, i've had 2 car's converted over the years. I've got a Hz pano i hope to get converted later this year, using s/h stuff as i've already got all the main hardware. Been rebuilding the car for a while now. Atleast i'll be able to claim the grant on that car!

Cheers

ToranaGuy
