Next weekend i want to change the shoes on the drum style hand brake on my el. Is there any hidden tricky bits that i need to know as i have never replaced drum shoes before.

Thanks, FairmontXR6

hand brake shoes easy enough to do but they can be a prick to get to the springs that hold them in. my advise is to do one side at a time so that if you forget where something goes then you can always revert back the othere side to see where it goes. also take your time

i was 99% sure that the e series and au just had a small clip opposite the adjuster that the shoes just slid in that a clipped there . just make sure you adjust them good the best way i found was just adjust them a little check the drum/disc on them to see a0 how hard/easy it is to fit(should be snug) b) how much drag is on them (should be medium) also when you do it back the cable of at the handbrake lever its a 10mm nut on a thread that attatches to the handbrake cable

Dude, if you've got nothing constructive to say then don't say anything.

FairmontXR6, Let me know how you go replacing the shoes as my handbrake needs it doing BADLY. Maybe even take a few pics and write up a short set of instructions and get it made into a tech doc as I know there are a lot of E-series cars with this problem.

try adjusting it first - thats the easy part, just turn screw in the inspection port on the drum

Yeh... that's what I've been told. I'll get round to it... like most things... I'll get round to it...
