my 90 ea ghia has climate control and for the past month the heater wont change form face to feet or screen to feet. It always worked perfect for years until now. It was good to keep the feet warm on long night country drives

Check your vacuum hose, there will be a black thin hose coming out of the firewall near the A/C hoses and will connect down to the end of the intake manifold.

Blend door only mixes the hot and cold air, it doesnt do any redirecting.
All the flaps for the vents are controlled by vacuum, so it has to be vacuum related. And considering none of the vents sound like they are working, it sounds like a main vacuum supply problem. Whether it is a leak, blockage, kinked line etc

tonight the heater finally changed to floor which was a miracle but then i tried to change it to face and back to floor cause i thought its finnished its periods and its stuck back on face again.
Oh well now i know it still changes but something is stopping it. Has any one changed a heater box before and knows where it could be jammed. Ive checked the engine bay and all lines look like there connected. theres not much to see under the glove box

Sturmovik wrote: And considering none of the vents sound like they are working, it sounds like a main vacuum supply problem. Whether it is a leak, blockage, kinked line etc He does mention the face vents work (from the first post), so I'd think there is vacuum getting to the vaccuum solenoid unit.
The face/floor actuator arm may have disconnected, jammed, etc. You can see this actuator head down a*** up looking up from the lower left drivers footwell. The actuator sits on the front drivers side of the heaterbox. Put some tape or whatever on the relevant buttons (because you won't see them whilst operating them), and watch the actuator for correct operation. The relevant vaccuum hoses are the yellow and tan ones. I have noticed if the vaccy line comes loose from the cabin sniffer, the actuator doors do struggle with movement, particularly at high fan speeds. In the EA-ED's the sniffer sits up near the demist switch.

Hey, this helps me out -- I've had the same thing going on with my '77 XC.
In my case, the vents flip by themselves when I accelerate/decelerate. I'll check my hoses. Thanks! |

(Would this have anything to do with the loud hissing I can hear, coming from somewhere behind the glovebox, whenever the engine is running?)
