Whats involved,
Where can I get it done (Can I do it myself) How much will it cost me? Ferntree Auto Sal gave me a rough quote of 2200 for the bits I need, but I think that was without ECU and pedal box. I've rang around a few places and all of them so far have said no as soon as they heard it was a 5lr. How much am I looking at in total? My auto is starting to give out, and I've wanted to go manual for a while. Anyone done it, what problems did you come across? |

Only difference to a 4L is getting the f**k box, they are rare as rocking horse s**t compared to the amount of 4L boxes floating around.
And they are alot more expensive. You see them advertised for 1500+ usually. You can get away with a mal wood pin for the pedal box, just have to keep an eye on it. The 5Ls do seem to have a much lighter clutch feel generally, so that helps prevent the pedal box bending. Manual ECU may be hard to find, there is a thread in the V8 section (posted by sourbastard) which covers tricking the Auto trans ECU.

There are heaps of threads on this, including some on my installation.
I bought the box and most parts for $800, a new billet steel flywheel for a few cartons of beer ($451 retail), cable, pedal-pin, thust and spigot bearings etc for $400. It took less than 8 hours to remove the auto/flex-plate, a quick modification to the auto loom that I left in place (connected reverse switch and shorted start inhibit), install the T5, flywheel, clutch, cable and the pedal. I think I could do it a second time in much less time, because now I know all the tricks. The hardest part was probably removing the auto ECU because it was getting in the way of teh clutch cable and the screws are in odd places. The trick here, is I used a hoist. It's the only way I would attempt it. V8 boxes are not very common and everyone is asking for them on here. When one comes up for sale everyone who previously asked seems to disappear. Can you spot the dreamers.

Balls..
I really want to get it done, but I'd prefer to go somewhere and say "heres a wad of cash, seeya in a week" and come back with a perfectly working manual put in it without anything dodgy. And.. without being ripped off |

I'm still planning on doing it.
What box am I after? And what parts do i need? Box, pedal box, clutch cables, Manual ECU (Or can i tweak mine?) etc? Whats the box called, so I can keep an eye out for it? |
