one place i worked did carbon cleans. we used to dyno the car with the carbon clean gear going through it. man, some crap came out of the exhaust ! most made more power, and most ran better. it really seems to shift all the deposits from the intake and chambers.

every so often i throw a bottle of techron 5000 from caltex in the missuz car
supposed to clean out carbon deposits & it does seem to make a difference, smoother idle, more pick-up & go was suggested to use this by a mechanic some time ago he used to dribble it down the intake whilst on fast idle but he said upending in the tank had same effect, just slower

if you use high quality oil and high quality fuel you will never need a carbon clean. I've ripped apart engine engines using the good stuff from new and everthing is nice and clean and the engines last forever.
If you use woolies oil and crap fuel then it will probably help somewhat. I've ripped apart engines where cheap a**-oles used crap everything and yes I can see a carbon clean can help but it has its limitations.

Of course, its not like its a magical answer to all ur s**t running issues. But in certain situations it would help a lot. It's like anything, if ya got an old motor that maybe hasn't been looked after properly it'll clean her right up. Whereas if ur car wont start because the alternator and battery are both screwed you wouldnt do an oil change hoping to fix it.

Hi all, I am located in the Melb's west.
I got a quote for a carbon clean, the mechanic would bring the machine out to do it on sight. He quote $165 or $195, a bit more than the $95 quoted here. One thing that concerned me though was that he said the clean might stuff up the spark plugs??! Didn't try to sell me any but said it could be a good idea to have a spare set on hand. Has anyone else had/seen spark plugs stuffed by a carbon clean and is there a place that does for less? Thank you in advance
