Just interested to see what other people with stock/near stock fairies have done down the quarter.
Ours has just got a set of HM headers bolted to the standard exhaust system. I was quite impressed with the result considering the stock v8 does a 16.2 400m.
I forgot to mention its a sportsman with 3.45 LSD, it lights the tyres up in the dry in straight line :P , WHAT A BEAST! (sarcasm).

60ft: 2.604
660ft: 10.691
400m: 16.347 / 87.08 mph

They state 16.2 for the 5.0, my 5.0 ran 15.5 bog stock.

Going by your MPH and 60ft times i'd say wheelspin let you down and your car is capable of 15.8 or thereabouts in its current form

We had a full tank of fuel aboard and the car has a sunroof. I've driven a few v8 versions and I must say it feels line ball.
I'd love to see time slip for 15.5 WALKS, don't doubt it completely but sceptical to say the least. Auto 200kw xr8 does it in 15.4 STOCK.

I'll see if i still have the slip, but there are 30 odd Fordmods members that will vouch for the time.
I mean bog stock too, even std air filter and snorkel.

16.3 is an average time for a au i6 with extractors. my au dead stock does continues 16 flat on a g-tech though.

also may i ask what the point of having headers along with the standard cat-back exhaust is???

G-Tech means nothing, get out to a drag strip and get REAL timeslips, smoke_ ran a 15.9 in a DEAD STOCK AU1 Futura

yes i no that, and you are correct. all i was intending was that cars are capeable of times quicker then magazines or companies have quoted for them

Dude its a fairlane! at least 100 kg heavier then the fairmont ghia/xr6.

Well if the exhaust aint broke why fix it? The headers are what make the biggest difference. Remember you want back pressure for low down torque! Shes slow enough off the line as she is, makes power to 5,500 so not losing much I think. Not asthmatic above 4,500 rpm like before.

its a decent time, dont get me wrong i wasnt implying that your car is slow, what i was trying to say was just because the factory quoted a slower time dosnt mean its not capeable of better.

as for the exhaust, sorry to say but gains atm are very limited because of the standard cat back. get a new aftermarket 2.5 catback to get the most potential out of your extractors, who knows on a good night you might crack into the 15 mark

Might eventually get 2.5 inch system. Not my car by the way and yeah it is slow. My te50 which is also SLOW but makes it feel like a 3 cylinder daihatsu.

Its a luxury car, I think the 2.5 inch would make it drone excessively. 2 1/4 supposedly best for streeter that rarely goes over 4,000 rpm

I think the 60 ft is the let down.

Get the launch (or take off ) and 60 ft right and let the car do the rest while you have a coffee. You should be able to get that down to a 2.3-2.4 in a i6. 2 tenths off at the start and maybe a tenth in the top end due to higher trap speed and you'll pull a 15 with ease . :P

Have to agree about exhaust, the std manifold on the I6 flows pretty well, i noticed a big gain from my EF with 2.5 inch cat back and no extractors, drone comes down to resinator.

Factory quotes are usually well off the mark, when i read 16.2 for mine i thought that was s**t, mine felt quicker and when i ran it, it was.

I think mine would have ran quicker, but second gear seemed to hold out after it stopped making power, it felt like it was revving and going nowhere for a few seconds before shifting to third.
The time slip was in my car till i cleaned it out in March before driving to Qld, i'll see if i can find it, mind you it had close to 220,000 on the clock at the time.... And in V8 terms is nothing compared to a 6.
