I recently bought some new, non-genuine window regulators for my ef fairy. But when i put them in, they didn't seem to have enough power to wind the windows up. Out of the car they seem okay, but in the door with the window attached they were uesless. is this the regulators or am i not doing something right. Any ideas??

You will find the factory Rockwell units to be the best - decent power, pretty quiet as well.
What brand are yours ?? Preslite ?? If they're secondhand, you may need to service the cable drum and the cables. I've seen a few units where the plastic cable guides have broken, making it harder for the motor to drive the unit. The manual cables and slider unit will transfer across pretty easily, although you'll need to redrill holes to fit the motor unit as it's location moves slightly. Your window and channels may not be helping - try moving the window with your hands on it's own up and down - the channels may need lubing (there are threads and a sticky on this) - you can elongate the holes for the lower back guides and adjust them, and you can elongate the holes to adjust the window angle, but that's just about it.

Have you tried lubricating the rubber window channels? When they're dry it makes hard work for the elec motors. I thought I had a dead elec window, lubricated the rubbers, and it was good as new!

my front windows fallen inwards a bit, and its ripped one layer of tint off from when the window slides on the inside of the door edge on its way down.
new regs or can i pull the door trim off and service them? am going to need a re tint too i reckon

It's great stuff, and it's what I use, but it can get messy and if you leave it on external rubbers, it kind of stays there, even after washing! Apparenlty you can get dry lube in an aerosol can and it's supposed to be pretty good. I'm going to try some of this next time. |

Dlck SMiths sell '808 Silicon Spray' worked really well on mine, i had the same prob as the OP.
$18 for a large spray can.

just put a new aftermarket regulator in my passenger door and it wouldn't go up until i cleaned the tracks with silicon spray, just like new now
