I know this has probably been asked, and I searched without luck.
Long story short, EF Auto (N/A I6 with some work done) turning right out of my street this morning I put the boot in a little bit, heard the auto slip a bit (i knew it was going slightly), as I straigtened up the auto lost drive totally, just revving freely. Got off the pedal, got back on it and its all good. Any ideas?? How long you think I have before it goes bang? Anyone have a 5sp conversion ready to go for sale?? |

Check fluid levels.
This happened to Doug on AFF. The trans slipped on the freeway in the wet, it free revved then slammed back into gear which spun the car into the truck beside him. This used to happen to Dad's 3 speed EA all the time and it is still going after 4 years. He tops it up religiously though. |

same sorta thing happened in my ef, check auto trans fluid levels, apparently these models dont have bands on the trans? so it won't be that, for me it was the fluid level, but apparently could be due to the s5 solenoid.
Mine used to happen when id slow to turn into a street up a hill, the auto tried to freerev but because i was effectively freewheeling up a hill at low speed the ground speed of the car didnt match the rotation of the gearbox, so it would slam into a lower gear when the revs built up, big clunk noise and a tire screech, doesnt feel healthy. fluid top up sorted it out though. |

They do have bands, they just aren't externally adjustable like the older model BTRs. +1 for fluid as well.

Sounds like fluid level but when was the last time you changed the filter in the transmission? , which could be another possibility.

Sorry to say bud. but regularly maintenance and servicing will avoid issues like these 80% of the time, the rest is just bad luck and due to hard driving. Fix it now before it gets worse. My unwanted 2 cents lol.

Thanks Guys. I have only owned the car for about 8 weeks. I checked tranny level last week (yes it has dip stick) and apart from being a bit burnt the level was fine.
I have it booked in for tranny flush and service next week anyhow, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't gonna leave me stranded. But, still a good excuse for a T5 |
