I know there is a lot of info regarding this, but it seems there is more than one way to do it.
So was just wondering what the best install method is, in terms of: power supply location? - straight from battery or handsfree fuse? do you have to run through aux on the factory stereo, or can you wire speakers straight to new unit? When people say you lose your steering wheel controls do they mean you lose control on the factory unit or just the unit in the tissue box? What is the deal with running a sub as well, wire through amp to new unit or to factory? Cheers for the help, i don't know much about BA's, as USED to have an EF wagon till it was written off - not my fault either, got rear-ended at 60kmh. |

The steering wheel controls are lost as they're only compatible with the factory unit - not the aftermarket.
Theres no reason why you can't wire the speakers straight up to your new unit, or alternatively, you can keep them wired to the factory and run the audio in from the new unit to the factory one. Power - well one of the power wires has to be from the battery (constant), the other is accessories (ignition switch controlled) so you'll need to find something to tap into in the cabin for ease. |

the asl upgrades are expensive, but they function exactly like OEM upgrades, and they are designed by the same people that designed the gear in the car.
once u install an aftermarket deck the speakers arent connected to the factory one any more, so no, the buttons still dont work... i know the asl upgrades are a little pricey, but theyre worth it. The also include bluetooth in them for very little more cash again |

I'm interested in what they offer. I've heard of the larger colour lcd's etc, but do these upgrades have dvd playback etc? i'm guessing they do.
Crossing my fingers to see if they have locations or suppliers in NZ Perhaps the extra money will be worth it and can still keep the nice stock interior without going ricer!!! I appreciate the input mate, you seem to have helped me change my mind. I will search for asl's website, don;t spose they are one of those great companies that give slight discounts to ford mods members? Have you done an upgrade yourself? |
