well i guess there's a reason why Ford went to the expense and toruble of making and fitting them, so I'd be thinking strongly about putting it back.

it's the fuel pump baffle, stops the pump from running dry.... eg, going abound a corner all the fuel in the tank will roll to one side, the baffle holds a small amout of fuel untill the car straightens up...
you should put it back in..

yeah it was just sitting there in the tank not attached to anything and i tried to see if it went on the bottom of the sender/pump there is no way it attaches to the bottom could there be a missing peice still in the tank and another thing my father down his ea pump a while back and he never encountered this. i have thourly read a majority of the gregorys manual and it states nothig about this (although i have EA book that covers my model)

again unless i have missed something still in the tank.

it is supposed to be plastic welded to the bottem of the tank (via tha round hole in the bottem)seems as though the weld has broken away, if you place it back in the tank and make sure when refitting the pump assy, that the pump assy goes into the baffle, if this is done it will still work like it is supposed to..
