hi there , can anyone tell me what i will need to replace the fuel pump on a ef wagon?, do you need any special tools to undo the fuel lines?, also there are quite a few different brands of fuel pump on the marke, are any better than others?, any tips greatly appreciated

yeah when i changed mine i had a major agro attack because the fuel line wouldnt unclip as it was chock full of dirt.....ended up destroying the clip and had to make a new one.....also then the pump wouldnt come out of the hole - i ended up throwing it as far as i could when it finally came out.....
in the end i changed it for nothing as my car is still running crap

they are a real prick. my advice is lift the tank out and then change it - also chekc the condition of the tank for rust.
i found when doing mine that we had to put 500kgs in the corner of the rear to squish the leaf spring so that I could get the fuel pump out (as the pump is attached to the fuel level sensor unit and all that). also as said above, the fuel lines are a prick, you push the white plastic bits while trying to push the line up. they break easily. |

hi guys thanks for the replies , i thought i could get the pump out without removing the tank but maybe i was wrong, do you need a special tool to get the lines off?, are fuel miser replacement pumps ok?, cheers

ed1 wrote: hi guys thanks for the replies , i thought i could get the pump out without removing the tank but maybe i was wrong, do you need a special tool to get the lines off?, are fuel miser replacement pumps ok?, cheers mate they are a peice of piss to do i drove mine 10 minutes to a workshop put it on a hoist changed the pump and filter and drove back to work all in my lunch hour and i wasnt late back,and yes as far as fuel miser goes they seem fine its what i put in and i sell them everyday with minimal comebacks,all i can say is be patient and dont force the sender just keep moving it around and it will come out,and also when i did mine the gauge didnt work i thought i had wrecked it but in like 2 weeks it just started working again,and np you dont need any special tools,good luck

thanks mate i will give it a go, should i have to drop the tank in a wagon as it looks like it will come out ok through the pass wheelwell? , thanks

yeah easy to do... I had to refit the sender float a couple of times then folded the rubber grommit but easy enough to fix. havent touched it for 4 years since I sorted it.

just make sure you only have about half a tank of fuel.
