Hi.
I have had this problem for atleast six months. Through the rev range of my car it has flat spots. In other words the power is not "linear", as in every 1,500rpm there is a dead spot for about 400rpm, it begins just after 2,000rpm. I have replaced the leads, cleaned the ISC and Ford have checked the plugs and coil pack. The car doesnt have the issue out of gear. Car is a 96 EF2 I6 Sedan, 230,000ks with reco head about 30,000 ago. Any help would be great. |

i had this issue with my fairlane when it dropped back to idle it almost stalled. mine ended up being a loose vaccume line from the aircon (think black one) but yours seems to be right through the range... id check your hoses just to be sure

Im getting tthe exact same issue atm.
Mine only started after i changed to new pacies. Im thinking it might be something to do with the o2 sensor somehow? Doubtful, but worth a look i suppose. Have also posted this in pertheseries.com and they've told me it could be the coil pack. Any answers, please let us know. Its pissing me right off. Go to take off normally, and not even applying any more pressure on the throttle, the car gets a flat spot, then 2 secs later, damn car goes like a little rocket on roids :\ So annoying. Not to mention the very lumpy (almost 'missing') type of idle. Oh also, this only happens to me once the car has warmed up completely.

remove the O2 sensor but sit it in the hole (just catch thread so it stays but easily removed by hand) start the car, when it warms up or gets the flat spots pull the sensor out and see if the motor changes.
my mate done this to his fairlane the other day and the O2 sensor was soo stuffed the idle didnt change at all... |

i just changed mine with the one from my EA wreck. 2 totally different looking units. EA one is factory NC im not sure. but i changed that and it solved my massive fuel usage. i also have a dead spot type thing where i give it some revs then back off and it almost dies before the computer kicks the revs back up. i swapped map sensors and it ran ok. i then swapped the sensor on top of the throttle body and the idle roamed all over the place. so i used degreaser and cleaned the s**t out of the NC one and put it back on. it seems on now but im going to leave it till tomorrow to see if its still there. if it continues ill put the EA computer into it and see how it runs
