Hi All,

For sometime now, the accelerator pedal in my ED has had a tendancy to stick on occassion.

It only occurs as I put my foot down again, after I have taken my foot completely off, such as after having stopped at traffic lights. I'll put some pressure on the pedal, but it won't budge. So, I'll put even more pressure, only for it to (finally) move and for my car to launch off the line like a dragster.

Happens (maybe) half of the time. Needless to say, its led to some interesting situations, particularly in the wet!

Ford claims that its the result of the throttle body being clogged with carbon. But I don't see how that would be the case when it happens as I'm driving out of the service centre!

I've had them check the cable etc for binding, but they said they couldn't find any evidence of that occuring.

Has anyone had any similar problems? Is this a problem that is known to occur in Windsors or E-series vehicles?

Thanks

Will

you could try and tighten the spring on the throttle body. u need to unclip from its recess and wind it another turn or two, then put back in its recess.
the spring im talking about is underneath tb, near where accelerator cable attaches.

also make sure accelerator cable isnt turning to sharply around corners, and has the most 'direct' path to thottle body as possible.

i'd say the throttle cable might be slightly frayed inside its casing..

its quite common for the throttle body to be full of carbon, so when you get go of the pedal, the butterfly closes, and is held in that position by the carbon build up.
Easiest way to check it is to lift the bonnet on a cold monring, and try move the throttle body linkage, if it is stuck, then definately thats your problem.

The solution is to grab a can of carby cleaner and a rag, open the throttle body all the way (or have someone hold the accelerator pedal flat to the floor, engine off, obviously) and clean all the carbon out.

Hi All,

Hey Duc21, could you let us know how you go?

I've cleaned out the carbon two or three times now, but just can't seem to identify the source of the problem.

I'm sure that it must be the cable itself.

Will
