I have been having overheating probs with my car and have been told it is due to a partially blocked radiator........Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to flush the radiator out?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the local radiator shop does it for free if its out the car
he puts the garden hose on the top hose and hes got a connection that has a air line in it
he puts it on its end , fills it with water then he opens up air line breifly , then fills with water and does it a few times more , hope this helps

dont pressure hose the fins as this sometimes flattens them
remove any crap from fins and straighten any flattened ones
while your doing this id back flush the block with the thermostat removed

If your radiator is blocked then you can try flushing it as per normal and using a radiator cleaner from wynns or similar. Be careful using these as most of them are fairly corrosive and you need to make sure that you do not leave them in there too long.

On the other hand you can have it cleaned professionally and have new tanks put on. They do this by removing the tanks and then "rodding" the core. I do not like this as when being rodded I believe it causes thinning of the core. For the money they charge to do this you might as well buy a new one for about $150-200. At least then you know what you are getting.

Where do you get a V8 radiator for $150-$200? I replaced mine before christmas for $178, but that was trade and for a I6. AFAIK V8 radiators are more like $350-$400 retail.

Rodding, is the only way to effectively clean a radiator and see that it is cleaned. Price I got was about $90 including new tank and seals.
