Hello,

I'm new to this forum and I registered with the specific purpose of asking the following question:

"I have a '63 Ford Falcon with the 170 cu. in. straight 6, with solid lifters. What changes would be necessary to convert to hydraulic lifters?"

I know that the rockers, pushrods, and (of course) the lifters are different, but what about the cams, or cylinder head?

I did the reverse (hydraulic to solid) on a different vehicle with the Ford straight 6 many years ago (don't ask me why) by simply changing out the rocker assembly, push rods, and lifters, and it worked OK, but in this case any dimensional differences that may exist in the cylinder head, and to some extent the cams, could be compensated for in the valve adjustment.

Any and all responses will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

welcome to the site, generally you can't mix and match cams and lifters. Because they're ground differently, a solid-lifter cam must use solid lifters and a hydraulic cam must use hydraulic lifters the head should be fine, if its a high revving engine and a daily driver i would say anti pump lifters would be a better option.
