My car has to go over the pits and it has a Stealth FX BOV on it. If I turn it to NOT vent externally ie plumb back (as it is adjustable) would that make it legal? The way I understand it is these are illegal for emission reasons so if it is performing the same as the standard one ie plumb back, then it should be legal
Also have an A-pillar mounted boost gauge approx 2" in diameter (I didn't install this. If I was going to install one I wouldve used the factory pods and this may happen in the future). Is this going to be an issue? Cheers for any advice. The Dog

If you can physically prove that in a front end collision your arms or head aren't going to go so far forward that they smack the A pillar then you'll be fine.
As for the BOV its more of a noise issue. Yes noise is a form of pollution which the EPA governs. |

Can you call them and ask?
I would say it wouldnt be legal because you can easily change it to atmo king of like how a boost T isnt legal because it can change your emissions with a turn of the dial. Surely they can give you this info before you rock up. |

the Gauge can also be an issue if it in any way Obstructs the drivers view of whats going on infront of him.. and the gauge cant be anywhere on the dash that in the case of an accident, your body wont go sliding/smashing into it

Just got off the phone to Transport SA. The BOV is considered illegal. The gauge is illegal if I can in any way hit my head on it. If I can hit my head on it then it also would impair my vision. I don't beleive this will be an issue.
But it does beg another question (and I know what the answer will be from the beaurocrats). My car has an airbag. In the event of an accident feirce enough to cause me to be thrown forward hard enough to hit my head on it, shouldn't the airbag deploy preventing the above incident?

I'd pull em both off for the purposes of going over the pits, its just not worth the hassle of going over twice IMO.

Yeah the BOV will go (never really liked it anyway) but I am gunna try to get it thru with the gauge on it. I physically (and I have tried) cannot get my head in between the steering wheel and the A-Pillar to hit my head on it. Not unless the steering wheel collapses.

The Dog doubt your BOV will pass, even though you may have it set to plumb back whats stopping you from setting it vent to atmosphere as soon as your on your way home. also with your gauge, you shouldnt have a problem with it so long that it is below the top most point of the steering wheel (look at the highest point of your steering wheel then draw an imaginary line from one a piller to the other) if the guage is below that you should be sweet.

So when it goes over the pits I make sure the steering wheel is in the highest and closest position relative to the driver
As for the BOV: its history. Have put the standard one back on (and have some plans for some mods here once I get the pretty sticker removed). But I am going to take the BOV with me and ask the inspector, just out of interest. Not sure when Transport SA will be down this way next but as far as I can tell car is ready for their inspection. Stay tuned........
