Should make 5900. Sounds like crook plugs.

could be alot of things.
common things to check

1. Who does the servicing and are they checking inlet and exhaust manifold bolts EVERY SERVICE as specified in the service book?

2. Check the wiring to the exhaust side cam angle sensor (rear end of head). I've seen them melt and cause all sorts of running issues.

Also, how fast are you driving to be doing 4500rpm in 3rd gear?

3. Check fuel pressures etc.

In a 4 Spd auto, it would be about ~170ish, as I have done a couple runs on the dyno and its about that.

it could be overboosting in the higher gears.

or possibly torque tags on the computer.

isit edited or stock.

Moved to Forced Induction Workshop

Problem sounds like symptoms of a possible generic edit being loaded ? I know another member on here has similar symptoms with his XR6T - seems to blow out spark at 4500 + in the rev range...maybe try closing up plug gaps in the interim ?

iv been thinking about this for a few hours...

it may be worth checking the boost control solonoid. next to the battery.

if u spray wd40 into the solonoid it may fix this, being a mk1 its a few years old they get a bit sticky after a while and if the computer IN STOCK TRIM cant controll the boost properly it will put a stop to all the fun as it thinks u have a bleed valve on it. referencing from the 2 boost sensors.

spark plug gap should be .79 or .80 as said before if u have an edit.

if u have an edit, as we dont know yet, it may be the case that your torque tags or rpm limit havnt been adjusted properly.

will it rev to 6k in first and second if it does it may be a speed limiter edit or a ford reflash will fix this.

best thing if its stock is to get ford to have a look and reflash the computer.

you may also have an edited computer with the flash tuner onsold to a nother person with the tune left in your car.

^^^^There is a very detailed doco on how to do this on the xr6turbo site.
Well worth the time to do this IMO. And try to do it when you service the car from then on.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all your help. I really had no idea what could be wrong... was really spinning me out.

As far as I know its got an air filter, exhaust and thats pretty much it.

A little background I bought the car from a second hand car yard and I know the person who owned it prior it being traded in. I really don't know if he would have done anything to the computer. The car has a 3month warranty with the car yard but I don't know whether I trust them to check it out.

It couldnt possibly be a speed cut because I am only doing about 130ish...

I was talking to someone on the XR forums and they mentioned checking out Elite Automotive in Brisbane Southside. So I might take it them and see if they can help as well, they also do flashing.

I'd go with your instincts there...second hand car yard warranty = peanuts...they will know next to nothing...I'd personally prefer them to not touch anything (if it were me).

there could be a possibility the exhaust is causing over boost in 3rd.

paul at elite will sort you out he is a good bloke....
