Howdy fellow fordmodders,
recently got the ol' falc lowered 1inch on king springs, new shocks new springs all round. I got the heavy duty springs and shocks put on the back because i use it to tow a tonne of boat fairly regularly and also long trips etc. any who , recently went to the snow , had 4 people in the car , boot full of gear and rear left was bottoming out on most bumps, rear right was doing it sometimes aswell. The guy assured me that with the heavy dutys put in the towing would be fine and so i assumed that a normal holiday trip shouldnt have it on its a***. Im gunna go back to him and have a chat but just dont want him to make me buy something pointless if its a simple fix. Just wanting to know your opinions, any advice, comments etc. Thanks for your help |

i had mine lowered the same on kings lows (same as you i assume) and boge shocks and have a lpg tank in boot. I have had no problems with the back touching anything. i have 235 tyres so they are a bit wider than standard, so i thought they would rub. It sounds like a problem that the suspension guy should be able to fix though.

Can I ask what brand of shocks you have?
My car had Monre GT Heavy Duty Shortened shocks, and it bottomed out quite easily when loaded up. When I looked at them I noticed they don't actually have a bump stop. I checked some new Monroe GTs and they don't have bump stop rubbers either. I talked to my local suspension place, and ended up buying some Ultima short heavy duty shocks. These have a larger diameter tube and are around 50mm shorter than the monroes. And they have rubber bump stops. The suspension chap said that as I am running Super Lows I might want to shorten the bump stops by around a third which I did. Now the car handles much nicer and deals with large bumps while loaded up much better. And if it does bottom out you don't feel it like I did before. Check your shocks, they should have a rubber on the shock shaft inside the spring. Regards BenJ

Regards BenJ Monroe dont supply new bump stops so the original ones have to be used nor do Monroe make shortened shocks even though they say they are suitable for "lowered cars", I have the same Ultima shocks on the rear of my EL which is on lows. The Monroe GT's were awful even on lows (not enough suspension travel) |

So the bozo who put the shocks in before I got the car didn't put the bump stops in the front or the back. I had put some in the front too when I first got it. lol. The Ultima shocks are working well with the Super Lows so far. I am impressed with the positive change in the cars ride. Will see how they last. BenJ
