I own a 1998 EL Fairmont Ghia sedan.
My RH rear brake light is not functioning. All other rear lights are functioning correctly. I have replaced the bulb [even thought the existing bulb was fine], cleaned the terminal/s of the bulb/s and socket/s and checked ALL fuses. I cannot find a problem. I am writing to check with Ford owners if this is a common problem, possibly a wiring fault. Should anyone have encountered this problem before or simply have some advice for me I would love to hear from you. |

My ef fairmont has the same problem. I found that the buld holder is out of shape and the buld doesnt quite line up with the terminals, so when I apply the brakes the lower wattage filament lights up and when the headlights are on it doesnt light up at all. I'm gunna replace the bulb holder and see how that goes. Hopefully ford will sell me one and not the whole assy.

Make sure the pins are correct on the bulb. THe offset for the pins is different between the brake light, indicator light and reverse light.

if you pry away the carpet behind the light in the boot, you'll see the connection for the holders, moisture can sometimes get at it and corrode the terminals, check this connection also.

could it be the brake light switch? or both brake lights wouldent work then??

All brake lights would not work. Unfortunately I had that problem. |

Same problem with my EF Monty, the Bulb holder itself is out of shape, last time the bulb shorted out it must have overheated and deformed the holder. As it sits now its too high and there is no contact with the earth pins on the side. I was trying to find a way to wedge the bulb down a bit but cant work out anything with the materials I have in the garage.
