any one have any experiance prepping body pannels ect for paint? will i save money lightly rubbing parts back with like 400 then 800 grit wet and dry b4 i take them to a proffesional to be sprayed or would that just be a waste of time?, havent gone to a pannel shop to enquier or anything yet, though i would just throw it up here n c if anyone had any advice, pannels are a dark blue going onto a polynisian green car, dose this mean only a light rub back is needed as the colours are close and wont need to be primed?

I have a similar question to this... Can you sand your original paint down to the original undercoat and then paint a new colour on or must you take it back to metal and do the whole proccess, Undercoat, Main colour, Clear etc... I wanna paint my car blue mist and want to try it myself.
Sorry to steal the thread abit.

i think *unprofessional opinion drunk coming through here*
if you are going to a darker colour you should only have to rub back through the clear and a bit of the couple for the new colour to stick. hope that makes sense and helps.

Trust me, don't touch em as it will most likly be the same price. Question 2, old paint makes good under coat. Just give it a wet rub with some 400,600 wet'n'dry or use a scotch pad with some rubbing compound and your good to go. I only just painted my wagon on the weekend, haven't had time to put it back together yet so I dont have any outside shots yet.
