Im going to order a Di Filippo 3" Intake pipe for my EF.
http://www.darrendifilippo.com.au/intake_sys.html Is there anything else I need to take into account for when I switch it over. I currently just have the intake pipe going to a pod. I think the pod is 2.5" if its going to the stock intake pipe right? So Ill need to get a bigger pod. I will also need a bigger heat shield too right? Any ideas were I can get a heat shield from? How much do 3" K&N Pods cost? Are they worth it? My mate says normal cheap pods are better cause u just replace them instead of buying the cleaning kits. Thx guys!

buy K&N don't listen to mates who don't know anything.
a pod sitting in the engine bay won't be the best thing as where it sits it's sucking in mostly hot air, and you can get heat shields from most autobarns supercheap etc etc, but again they are mostly metal and will attract the heat and also restrict air flow.. But in saying this if you're always moving and not stuck in dirty hot weather traffic it will be fine! personally i think the best thing would be buy a bigger snorkel buy the intake piping and buy a K&N panel filter or pod to sit inside the box itself. How much do those pipes retail for? |

Autobarn have K&N pods on sale a lot for $70. I'd go K&N for sure don't buy the cheap crap.

the intake pipe is around the $350 mark...
they are a nice looking unit but sounds too dear to me! go to an exhaust joint and get them to bend one up for you will only cost you about $200 for it depending where you go.. you dont need all of the mounting brackets that are welded to it, it aint going nowhere! or your other option is to make it from 3 pieces of stainless pipe, and a silicone bend, that will cost you only $100 and does the same job... check out my gallery for an idea...

Holy s**t! $350!?! I got quoted just under $150 by my exhaust guy for a single 3" Mandrel bent pipe from airbox the TB including a replacement no-namer high flow panel filter.
Ring an exhaust place and ask them how much they'll charge to make you one up

$350, damn! Di Fillippo do awesome work though, and have a great reputation for quality and results.
Quality can vary greatly between exhaust shops, and if I was in the market for an intake pipe, I think I'd grab this, as you know that it will be awesomely made, and will have very neat welding. I recently had some work done, and had to go back twice just to get a tip welded on properly, and even now it's got bits of weld hanging off everywhere! |
