ive got four 6in 2 off the head unit and a 125rms kicker sup and 2 jvc 200watt 6s off a 600watt amp and it pisses out, 120dbs with my m8s meter

as mentioned before (i think) the hu is 4x50 MAX. rms is about 15.
speakers that are 200max will be about 50rms.

you wont hurt a speaker running it from a hu unless you turn the volume up to a point where its distorting or if you have the bass set really high.

most salespersons know sfa.

Problem comes when drive from head unit or amp reaches its maximum and from then till when the level of signal reduces you have DC running through the speakers.

Speakers are impedance rated. They could be 4 ohms impedance but 0.1 ohms internal resistance. At 12 volts that is a possible 120 AMPS and yes it will fry a speaker. You could exceed the power of the speaker by double or triple the rated music value without much or any damage but if you exceed the maximum rating of your head unit or amp then you will get square wave, inverting dc, which can and will kill speakers.

Think of it this way, would you connect your speaker across your car battery?

It can be very damaging to speakers by running a lower powered amp to your speakers and pushing it hard as mentioned above square waves produced by distortion is exactly the same as dc for that brief period of time and this is bad.
I gave had this problem personally over the years using low powered amplifiers and trying to wring out every last watt out of them.
I burnt 2 tweeters and an 800w Orion xtr15dvc sub off a 20w/ch amp.......
But you need to make sure that the power ratings are real and avoid distortion like it is the black plague and you will be fine.....
