need to take out the battery and not sure how it will effect the smartlock system or the factory sound system security code(which i dont have).
is there any particular way it should be disconnected and reconnected?

smart lock will be fine

you will need the radio code after you disconnect the battery. try ringing a ford dealer have your vin and everything else handy and if their nice they might give it to you for free.

as for disconnecting the battery always disconnect the negative first and attach it last.

that is when taking it out, unhook the negative and then the positive.

when replacing it hook the positive up first and then the negative.

I was given by a auto electrication a unit to save radio codes

It consists of a adaptor which goes it the cig lighter hook up to a small 9v battery (like in smoke detectors) everyone keeps spares for them RIGHT, you then must have the ign in the acc position with everything else turned off.
BUT CHECK THAT THE CIG LIGHTER WORKS FIRST it may have ash on the connections.
good luck
