ive got my car sitting on stands with the balancer off waiting on a new woodruff key from ford. at this current point on time its getting a new balancer woodruff key and crank seal.

my brain tells me that it would be wise to replace the timing chain while i have most of the front of the motor apart

what are the double row timing chain and sprocket sets like. do they have much over a stock replacement of is just wank factor. ive had a look on rocketindustries.com and there are 2 types listed for the 302i windsor

theres this one:
http://www.rocketindustries.com.au/desc ... o=ROCS3080

and then theres this one:
http://www.rocketindustries.com.au/desc ... ROCS3080-5

what is a .005" Tunnel Bore? and does this apply to my motor? or should i go for the ROCS3080?

cheers

Yeah mate the ROCS3080 is the one you want.
The tunnel bore one im guessing is for if you have had your mains journals for your crankshaft line bored for oversize bearings, therefore making the crank sit .005" higher in the block which would bring the two gears closer together making the chain too lose on the std one.
Someone please correct me if im wrong.
Anyway definately a good idea what your wanting to do while your are that far anyway. I'd be checking condition of water pump and timing cover aswell in case of corrosion etc. Also be careful with the front of the sump gasket that goes to the bottom of the timing cover.

now i know what you been by the gasket that sits at the bottom of the timing case. didnt relise i had pulled it off when i took the timing case of, so now i have a car that doesnt go and a broken sump gasket. some ulrta blue should fix it up though well hopefully.

Yeah i've heard of people getting away with a bit of sealant down there when they split the gasket. Gotta hope it works else you will be pulling the engine out and sump gaskets aint cheap, for a genuine ford one i paid $182 trade price.

is that gasket the one that goes in the half circle bit where the timing case meets the sump? if it is and you cant reuse it you can buy a sump gasket kit from repco and it has a seperate litle rubber gasket for that half circle bit for bout $50. ford tried telling me my engine needed to be lifted to fit a new sump gasket, but after a quick look and a trip to repco the problem was solved.

yeh thats the one. the gasket was stuck on tight on the timing case case so i left it there and smeared ultra blue right round the bottom of the timing case. so hopefully shes doesnt leak
