I've serviced my engine and planned to get a mechanic to do my brakes and steering but I got quoted $650 for that.
I need upper/lower ball joints, 2 new front rotors, dust boots etc. I've never done the brakes myself and since they're a safety issue I want to do it correctly. I made a thread on torque wrenches and all the guys who replied said you can just use a spanner. What should I look out for when doing the brakes. Also the caliper slides are possibly seized. |

Well firtsly the upper and lower ball joints can be bought for about $100 plust fitting (Pedders charge about $60 for fitting) As for brakes you could buy new rotors, pads and front bearings and still have change out of $500 to buy tinted windows!!! If you have any fordmods members near you im sure they will take payment in beer to help you. Buy what you need in parts and you will save heaps if you do it yourself.

Yeah I'm planning to get RDA rotors off ebay.
The rear rotors are fine. Do I need to replace the pads? On my last service receipt (15 000k's ago) it says: DISC PAD BENDIX ADVANCE and under quantity it says one. Would that be a set of 4 or just one? Labour was $70. Also it's only been 15 000 k's so how often do pads need to be changed? Yeah I'm in SE melbourne it would be great if some one would teach me how to do it. |

The quantity 1 may be 1 side. Im also in south east so if u want i can show you how to replace rotors and do brakes. The upper and lower ball joints i cant do sorry..

Thanks for the offer.
I'm sitting my P's in 5 days, I'll drive down once I get them. I'll buy the RDA rotors on ebay (rotors seem to cost s**t at supercheap auto and places like that). Also I don't have any tools (besides a s**t $40 torque wrench which I would rather not use). Also ball joints need to be pressed in so I'm gonna get a pro to do it, but I was told if I remove the arm I can save myself $100. Would you know how to do that? |

1 would be either front or rear pads. You dont replace just 1 side it makes the car pull under brakes. |

I dont have the press or tooling for the ball joints but if i know pedders i know you wont have the ball joints pressed in before you get your P's Best thing is call pedders or someone that can press in the balljoints then we can do the brakes. If replacing the rotors you should replace the bearings aswell. I have the tourque wrench and any other tools needed.
