Got a 1991 Townace, go the 2C-T motor and a A44DL tranny. I have flushed it with 16 litres of fluid, pulled the pan off, cleaned the small filter i could see, but it still goes to nearly redline before slamming into gear, when you put it into D it goes straight in, doesnt slip etc, but still wont change until it redlines, the fluid when i changed it, was beyond black, not changed in yrs i reckon. Looks a very complicated POS, not like a old BG 3 speeder. Any ides? bands? cause the change from 1 to 2 is especially bad.

look for a vaccum line to a modulator on the box it may have come off, or it may be stuffed not 100% sure if these have one or not, the vacuum line should run down from the manifold area not always easy to locate on a van due to crap viewing from the top but maybe drop under and check may be a perished vacum hose??

Is it idling higher than usual??

Idles fine, thats what i thought to, was a vacuum leak, but i cant see one, will have to jack it right up and have a look tomorrow, might be one hidden somewhere. Has to be somewhere you would think, not being a electronic box, ?

I presume it would have bands, not accesible though, not like BTRs etc, if i want to pull the whole lot off, it would cost 400 bucks for all the gaskets O rings etc, 8 weeks ex Japan. Going to look at it now on stands.

Just found a vacuum line that was broken, glued it back on, now its kicking down quicker, i will try adjusting the cable that is pulled by a servo unit, see what happens. So it appears to be cable operated off a vacumm servo, i presume.
