Hey guys, Once again i come to you for some help. Has anyone come across a BA series the will not start ? It turns over but does not show any sign of fire. while cranking it over if i give it half throttle it sounds like it wants to go i.e.: little minimal fire. any ideas ? i was thinking airflow but how do you test it ? Any help would be great. As usual thanks in advance.

i'm a ford mechanic so i've seen alot of BA's that dont go.
What is the smartshield hand doing? i've seen BEM failures cause exactly the issue you are having, although it isnt likely. Also, dont touch the accelerator when cranking, that in itself can be enough to cause flooding and/or deliberate not starting because its a fly-by-wire throttle and it will be programmed not to allow u to mess with its head so to speak. Could be a failed fuel pump. Its not likely to be ignition system as they run coil on plug, so theoretically the only 4 things that can cause it not to have spark are 1. Crank angle sensor failed, 2. PCM failed, 3. Engine disabled by smartshield, and 4, wiring issue to PCM. As i said its not likely to be ignition system but it could be a fuel pump issue. This is what it sounds like to me. |

not common by any means but not uncommon either. Being a fairmont im going to assume sedan, its under the rear seat.
I'd get it checked before i assumed that its a fuel pump because as i said its not the only option. Has it still got New Car Warranty on it? |

the car is now 4 years old yeah at around $400 for a fuel pump i hope not. Thats OK, i have got the work car for a few weeks and guess what !.... It is a BA Giah... time to swap some parts to see what makes her go. any sugestions on what is the easies things to swap first ?

fuel pumps are easy to swap when you've done a few, but you will need new seals once u open it. ECU's/BEM's etc will need coding by ford once u swap them before the car will run so its probably easier to just let the dealership do that. Pity u aint in perth i'd take a look at it for u today since im not at work.
can u hear the fuel pump run when u try and start the car? |
