Hey guys.
Yesterday I changed my factory steering wheel over to a leather one in my EL fairmont. The change over went fine but this morning when i drove it to work i noticed that the Airbag light was flashing on and off the it would permently stay on after a couple of minutes. Has this happened to anyone before and how do i fix it? Cheers Zacha

Obvious question first: Did you plug the airbag back in
I'll assume you did, which most likely means your clockspring has had it. See if you can get a replacement clockspring and test that. Oh and unplug your airbag. I haven't heard of it actually happening but if some positive voltage makes it into the airbag circuit it will go off on you. |

I'm sure i diod plug it in but i will check anyway. It might be a stupid question but what is a clock spring. I have no idea what it is, where to find it or how to replace it. Thanks heaps for your help. Zacha

When you take the airbag off you can see the module that sits behind the steering wheel and clips into the front of the combination switch (windscreen wiper / indicator stalks). The airbag and horn / cruise control wires connect into this module. That is the clockspring.
All it really is, is just a ribbon cable that is wound up so that you don't lose electrical connection when the steerin wheel is turning. When they die the ribbon cable separates exposing the wire tracks within. When it did it on my AU the horn wouldn't stop going off until I puleld the relay. |

so if this closk spring is the problem then my cruise control and my horn wont work, right. Ill try when i get home.
Thanks for your help. Zacha
