Yeah I wasn't too sure on this one but a Muffler Mechanic reckons using Octane boosters and PULP can stuff up your Catalytic Converter? Can anyone verify if this is True or just B.S

A few places have told me that L.p.G. wrecks them and taxis usually hollow there's out once they start to rattle.
But PULP and Octane Booster? What about cars like the FPV's where it's recomended you run PULP... |

Probably not much of a concern these days - most fuel additives are tested to ensure they dont damage oxy sensors and catalytic converters. Would have been an issue "back in the day" - but its been so long since a car was made that didnt run cataltyics...
Too much or too little fuel can damage them, as will running leaded fuel... so i can see where the muffler mechanic was coming from...

it's BS they wont do any harm, I know of cars that live on PULP, like a Brock Ford has twin cats, both in top nick, never replaced and it runs around 10.5L per 100km fuel economy.

If high octane levels destroyed cats, then all the petrol mobs would all be up for class action lawsuits for not telling people that their PULP will destroy a cat.
The only three things that will bugger up a cat are: 1. Lead or lead replacements 2. Excessively rich mictures 3. Old age (although I think cats these days are supposed to last in excess of 1,000,000km) |

If higher than recommended concentration is used, some octane boosters can poison the cat. one of them is NULON pro strength, one of the best on the market but if used in recommended dosages it will be fine on cats.
In these higher than recommended dosages the nulon pro strength will be able to provide more power if tuned right and in the case of turbo motors, more boost, but only if u dont have a cat or until the CAT is rooted..... If u ever doubt something a "specialist" says, ASK WHY. Most of the time they will giv an understandable answer, unless of course they are BS 'ing |
