right
so i bought a T5 gearbox, apparently its out of an EB , not sure if it was series 1 or 2 . how do i tell if it needs a 3 bolt clutch/flywheel or a 6 bolt? and can you put a 6 bolt clutch/flywheel into a T5 that came out of the factory with a 3 bolt assembly? bit confused.. cheers lockz

I have an EA man, and it was factory with a 3bolt clutch, so I fitted a 6 bolt RPM clutch and drilled & tappeed 3 more holes, easy as.

you can use either flywheel/clutch setup. They both bolt up the same, i'd deffinatly recommend the 6 bolt one.

I got a bunch of stuff from the wreckers, they seem to have given me an EA 3 bolt flywheel. Cant seem to get any of the bolts to line up with the clutch..
the rest of the conversion was an EF box. the clutch is new, I assume its EF specific, dispite its many millions of bolt up holes, none of em match the EA flywheel.

you need an EB2 onwards flywheels, it will have dowels in it and the correct 6 bolt pattern for the clutch.

cool, yea well this one certainly has no dowels which was the first sign something was wrong

Hey,
With the exception of the dowels and 6 bolt holes, are the pressure plates the same, as in height, between the early and late models?? My clutch doesnt disengage properly in my maverick with engine conversion (4.0L and Nissan 5 Speed) I got the bellhousing from Dellow(say no more!!) and they said it must be the pressure plate, or the flywheel has been machined ( the latter, IMHO is a crock of s**t ). I seriously doubt that it will work, unless i have to have the clutch adjusted right up so the release bearing is constantly running with the clutch a**'y. I'll be replacing the bearing every 3 months??? Hope someone can shed some light? Cheers Daz

My understanding is the clutches are the same in regards to size, diameter etc.
Just the mounting and clamping is different. Have you adjusted the pedal pivot? Have you inserted a longer pushrod (if hydraulic)? Im sure theres a way around to solve the thrust bearing drag.

Hi,
I have adjusted the pedal as much as it can go. I backed the stop right off, so i could get full stroke of the pedal. The nissan clutch pedal has a weird over-centre spring on it, having said that u can just about bleed the clutch on your own, and the piston is in the back of the reservoir. Basically i need a smaller diametre, longer slave cylinder so the master cyl will move it more, given the amount of travel i have atm( if this will work?) Other than that, i drill and tap holes for the Nissan pressure plate into the ford flywheel, and then get it balanced. (which i think is the best option) Going to wreckers to check things out tomorrow. Thanks for confirming what i was already sure of. Cheers Daz

Hey,
I went to wreckers and found XH ute clutch and flywheel. The fingers of the pressure plate are only slightly off the the pressed section of the plate,ie, the fingers are angled out, while mine are angled in, nearly flat. I noticed that i had to do the retaining bolts up a fair way before the pressure plate sat on flywheel. I checked a few other plates from different models, and they only seem to press about 3-4mm before the plate is on the fly', while mine is close to nearly the full thickness of the clutch plate, which is about 7-8 mm. The pressure plate i got (for free) was out of XF Falcon, maybe it's a H/D one. Maybe it's different to EA, but i doubt it. I have 2 options i think, buy another pressure plate and hope it has the right amount of clamp, or machine my pressure plate off. Not sure of the effects of this, but as the car is not a power monster, i cant see it being a problem. Any thoughts?? Cheers Daz
