i was thinking of doing some upgrades like cluster and trip computer..

then i started to wonder about the various looms that were available..

1. how many different engine bay looms were there? because if i upgrade to a fairmont cluster will i need to add a low coolant sensor?

are they differnt for the EL?

As far as I'm aware there is 4 types of engine looms.

6cyl
EF Low (no ABS)
EF with ABS (fairmont) aka NF
EF Fairlane (as above with sls)
and then the 8cyl (pretty sure all 8's have ABS wiring)

Might only be 2 6cyl types, and 1 8cyl.. I never really investigated.
(i will now!)

No, you don't need to change the body loom to do your TC/Cluster.
You can add the Low washer/Low coolant wires and also the Ambient air sensor wires.

Yes EF and EL are different (dash loom and engine bay)

Fairmont Dash loom of the same model (ef) will plug into a ef GLi body/engine bay.

You'll also get prewired window (with 1min delay) straight to the kick panel.

If you do this, you'll also need to replace... light switch, BEM and might be wise to replace the combination switch.

help?

ie:... battery saver?

EL only I think (for the manual int. switch)

All models turn the int. lights off after 1hr if a door or boot is left open.

correct me if I am wrong!

EF's didn't have it, not sure if EL GLi's had it.
