Didnt know which section to post this in, but here goes...
How do you fully clean/polish rims? I have the Simmons FR17's so theyve got a fair bit of chrome.. Any ideas on the best product to use? |

When I last did mine, lots of water and paper towels (and about an hour per wheel).
I tried two wheel cleaner products, but none worked better than plain water and elbow grease. For my weekly cleanings, a soft brush with some soapy water gets the visible parts clean.

Always start with the the carwash soapy water first.
If that doesn't bring them up, then you might like to start looking at some polishes - all depends how deteriorated they are. I just gave mine a light polish this weekend - just using a tin of Eagle One Mag Polish - only needed a light rub to get some of the oxidization off. (see my gallery for my wheels) Mothers mag polish with Carnuba something or other is a light gentle polish you might like to use. I used that when I first got the wheels but now find it isn't strong enough. I'm very tempted to rub mine back with 1200 wet n dry and then bring them up again from there - but it's a few hours per wheel type proposition which I can't find the time or inclination for at the moment |

1. Non acid wheel cleaner
2. High pressure blast 3. Shampoo with wax free car wash 4. Dry and clay them 5. Polish With step 5 you have some choices A tin of metal polish (AUTOSOL) or if really bad, you can try a paint cleanser or extra fine cutting compound with a foam pad. use a foam applicator instead of two fingers when doing it by hand You can even use a polishing ball which you attach to a drill Earlier last week I just got in P21S finish restorer. It's a 21st century version of AUTOSOL but does not have ammonia smell and is far superior Works on plastic and paint as well Very soon I hope to get P21S polishing soap. You wet the supplied sponge and wipe it over the container of soap and apply. In moments the rims are polished and your done

if u want to do them properly, you have to take some time and take each off the car and spend a good half an hour on each. did mine last weekend and the results are fantastic. dirty inside again already (brake dust etc) but thats what you get

Oh I forgot step 6 - Seal
To prevent brake dust, coat with a paint sealant, three coats of an acrylic type is best At the moment my suppliers of P21S are still trying to get a reply from the manufacturer regarding getting polishing soap to australia Finish restorer is available and although almost twice the price of a tube of AUTOSOL, it's far superior Concoursecarcare.com.au p21s.com

Mate , i have 18" ANZ Mayhem mags, which are chrome.. I get heaps of brake dust etc, which make them look black in a few days. I got the s**t cleaning it off and sometimes i had to scrub like crazy.
I went and purchased some Meguires Hot Wheels, just spray it on, give the hard areas a little touch with a cloth, hose it off after 15seconds, and hey presto, my mags look like new. Top stuff |

I don't get any brake dust on mine at all - I made some plastic covers that go inside the wheels and no dust can get out.
There has been no noticeable effect on brake temperatures - just keeps the dust off |

Mate I have the same wheels and I find Autosol to be the best. Clean the wheels regularly with soapy water and a sponge once they are polished and try to avoid using any spray on cleaner if you can ( I find they tend to dull the shine if used too often). Spend as much time as you can with the Autosol to get the desired finish then clean often.
