Hi guys I reckon I spent a good two hours last night going through the search function looking for info on the wade 1636 cam. i got a crap load of info and ALLOT of happy customers but all those reviews were fairly old and I'm looking for a more up to date review on how everyone thinks its going. Who's running this cam and and has had it for a while.
I got a little confused as to weather it was suited to auto boxes to. Some said it is then others said it isn't. Im running comp paccies and 2 1/2 zaust and an auto box. Theres a few guys running very big RWKW with just the simple mods to. Anyways end of rant. I'm after an up to date report on how its performing in your cars? Thanks guys! Any help would be much appreciated.. Nath |

its performing awesomely!
i dont think you can get a better cam for the money. few things: my stall converter was stuffed so i had issues with iffy idle and sometimes stalling. once it was converted to manual however the idle was 100% perfect and never stalled once. its about the best cam wade offer for automatic gearboxes, unless you have a highstall and springs and chip. as long as you get ya timing right, its pretty hard to fault the cam in any areas, except maybe around town fuel consumption.. power kicks hard after 2500rpm under that im pretty sure its only a tiny bit worse than standard but could be due to my stall converter which also died at the same time (and rarely see less than 2500rpm on the tacho since being manual lol) |

The cam is good, like mentioned, best cam that works with stock springs, ecu, both gerboxes etc.
But it does raise fuel consumption around town ive found, but highway driving seems unaffected Put it this way, if i heard wade was going out of business tommorow, i would get a loan and buy as many of these cams i could for future projects lol |

I'd like to add my positive comments to the others. I have found it a good value for money improvement.
My wife actually gets better economy now than she did previously – why?? I’m not sure. I however get worse – but it might have something to do with the willingness of the car now to rev and my heavy right foot. Great cam – no idle probs – infact the Mrs has not noticed the difference! The guy from wade (Chris) is a member on the forum. PM and you get good fast results. RS

if you have a cam to swap over its 135 for a regrind, if you dont its 135 +110 which you get back when you get another cam from a wreckers and turn that in to get your 110 back (about 60 at wreckers i think)
you also need shims to suit your car if its ea, eb or early eb2 you need the larger shims if its late eb2 or ed ef el (pre hybrid) then you will need the smaller shims $55 from ford or $4 from the wreckers |

Or i think its $400+ for a billet if you dont wanna stuff around with shims..

Does the 1636 suit lpg (Impco)?

I've been running the 1636 in my EL on lpg, it does have a tendancy to stall on both petrol and lpg (it did have a tendancy to stall on lpg before i got the cam on), but I have a blown headgasket at the moment, I'll get back once I get it fixed to tell if it fixes the stalling problem.

yer theres always that but once shims are calculated the billet is 100% identical to a regrind and $265 more for about 10 extra minutes of stuffing around |

i chucked mine in my 4spd ef auto after my exhaust and intake. and on the dyno it showed roughly 18rwkw up on previous mods.
It runs fine with the auto, but mine took a little while to settle in and does every time the ecu is disconnected ie. stalls a bit, hunts etc. Factory base idle is still fine with it in also. The cam really gives peak power about 2800rpm all the way to about 4600. its amazing at how fast that tacho needles climbs now. I recommend having extractors and exhaust done before (I know you have, just saying it for anyone else) as it really gets up and moves now. For fuel, My mods are, extractors, cat, exhaust (2.5"), 3.45 diff gears and the cam with intake, and i still manage to get 500 km a tank of town driving and thats still giving it a kick in the guts every so often. I like this cam a lot, but i now have a little bit of timing chain rattle (not an awful lot, maybe due to the shaved head as well?) |
