you'd see it over the entire tank. cracking of the tanks is the single biggest problem with plastic rad tanks. For it to get to that point it would have shown in other areas. Part of the problem is radiator places painting the cores and tanks black. It covers the fine cracks that appear well befor anything leaks or breaks

All tyres wear out, But would you let them get to the point of poping?
NO because in order to maintain you car you'd replace them befor they did.


so in order to maintain your car, you'd replace the rad befor it breaks.

hence good maintanence practice would have stoped it breaking because it wouldn't have been there.

As stated by yourself, It happens to EVERY plastic tank.
Rules out duty of care.

So I go and pick up the work car from the local mechanic and 2 hours later the headlight globe blows, this is poor maintenance? I mean, he checked the globes.

Maybe you should come and service our cars and tell the future of all wearing parts Mr Miyagi.

Conclusion:
These things happen, It's part of wear and tear.

Whether its lack of fluid in the cooling system, faulty thermostat, incorrect fluid, engine running lean, overtightening, negligence or even poor design (lets not start on head gaskets) it happened,

As I said before my cooling system was never underlooked, I even took the radiator out and flushed it when i changed my inhibitor once a year.

If we all could afford a Lanz Bulldog none of this would ever happen!

Also id like to add. I inspected both my end tanks and neither had any signs of cracks or damage showing through, it was a very very mint radiator.

I possibly have a dodgy temp gauge and my thermostat has done a good 30,000ks.

Dont forget to replace it with PWR custom radiator tanks or at the least turn up a brass sleeve to insert into the new tank to 'prevent' this from ever happening again.

Brass sleeves insert are a good idea. but as for the plastic, its just age!
