I tried playing around with a Pod Filter inside my airbox a couple months ago out of boredom to see what difference it'd make.
Overall i found i lost power and my exhaust note changed a bit (nicer) but felt that it wasn't what i wanted. Although i wanted to finish it with cold ram-air into the box from underneath or above which probably then could be a goer. Anyhow.. heres the pix as someone emailed me and asked (next time plz tell me your nick? lol) |

Yeah i wouldnt mind doing that mod insted of having the panel filter. but what about insted of having a pod fitler you get one of those BigMouth Pods which is inclosed in a plastic casing cant remeber the exact name of it but its supposed to be more effective than a normal pod.
Wonder if that would make much more difference?

I dunno, personally the only way i see it working is taking the plunge and mounting a pod in the guard or similar. This way you could take advantage of the increased surface area of the pod.... in fuzions example here i imagine it would be similar to simply replacing with a K&N panel, i assume these are similarly priced to pods?
However if you plumbed some additional cold air into that box fuzion, might see some better results? Who knows, but good on ya for experimenting and sharing.

This idea is already available via JMM. The Pod and adapter comes with their Mandrel Bent intake. I'm sure the pod and adapter are available separately for ~$100. I'm using the [JMM] pod on the 5.0 at the moment, and it made a HUGE difference over the crappy paper filter that was in there

i had an idea the other night, dont know why but this image popped into my head, dual air intakes, in the front bar where the brake ducts are, twin pods, 1 either side. it would look cool at least

in the ed, i removed the airbox all together. Underneith are 2 decently sized holes(factory) I attached the pod to an elbow piece and created a shield out of sheet of polished steel alloy. This ensures that the air being dragged in is coming from the exterior of the engine bay. I don't believe i'm getting more power but the front engine note is totally awsome.

johno (SVO XR6) will be running something very similar with his new twin TB setup - but its only really needed for cars running higher rwhp figures - as johno's is doing

ram air induction from under the box or ontop with a seq scoop as mentioned.. thats the only way or have a hole somewhere or get a whistler for your exhaust

Excuse my ignorance, but what are the advantages/disadvantages of having a pod filter in the air box as oposed to...not having it in there?
I dont have a pod filter on my car so i really know nothing about them.

fuzion - you have an EL right?
get an EF air box. it flows a lot more, as it doesnt have any ridges and it is all smooth inside. JMM i think have a claimed flow increase on their site |
