Next weekend I will be doing the head gasket on my car. As the subject states it is a hybrid engine. I have the Haynes repair book for 94-98. For torque specifications should i be going off this book or go out and buy the AU repair book.
The book has the torque specifications for the head bolts at 40nm. Is that the same as the AU, or do you have to tighten the head bolts to the torque specs for the gasket you are using. The book does state that in late model production engines that there is a wave washer and a thrust washer in between the rockers, so i am assuming that this book might be based on the hybrid as well?? The next question, being an XR6 motor would there be any torque differences in any of the bolts, or because of the cam would there be any differences in clearances of the valves etc........ What I should be doing is ringing up auto parts stores and seeing if they have a book about these engines. Any advice would be great. I am doing the head with my Dad and a friend and they have both done head gasket before. I'm just checking the final details. Sorry about the essay........damn hybrid motors. They should make a book on these |

EA-EL non hybrid motors, using aftermarket askets, say ACL/ etc, 40nm then a 90oC turn in the riight order.
if using EL-AU steal head gaskets, its 29nm and then a 180oC turn in the right order . hope that helps! |

Thanks for the replys.
So the head gasket will come with its own torque specifications. How about the rest of the bolts holding the rocker gear, and inlet manifold and extractors, should I just follow the torque specs form the EF-EL book or should I buy the AU repair book as well |

I took my head in for the service and straight away the guy said it was an AU head just by him looking at it. The gasket kit he used was for an AU. I know which settings to use and all is fine now
