Even the XD had 4V on the air cleaner, it was only a 2V engine with a 4 barrel carb. Hi Walker is on the right pathe , 2V and 4V refers to venture of carburetors fitted to the cleveland range of engines 4 ventures for a four barrel carby and 2 ventures for a 2 barrel carby. Yes thats correct ford fitted 4 barrel carburetors on 2V cylinder heads but the dual plane manifold the runners are same size as the 2V heads. where the 4V heads had a matching four barrel dual plain manifold with big ports to match. Also Makes referrance to the port size and port volume and shape style of head You also have combustion chamber shape differances also as in 2V heads open and also closed chamber shape heads. Same applies to 4V heads open and also closed chamber shape heads. One simple and effective way to bump up the compression ratio of a 351 cleveland 2V open chamber head engine is fit the 302 Cleveland 2V closed chamber head. Very effective Horse power increase mod. But be prepared to use higher octane fuel. The 3V was just a name CHI have named there heads , it is a head style between a 2V and a 4V port size , runner volume and shape , these heads out flow the ford factory units by a mile.
