hey guys, i am purchasing some 4.11 gears, they are going into an ed gli with a 3.08:1 ss in it atm. my question is are these going to fit? i have heard that only 3.08 gears will go into a 3.08 housing which is realy annoying. also if they do fit do i only have to replace the ring gear? or must i replace the pinion aswell? do they need to be shimmed? (they are out of a pintara). is this somthing i would need to get professionaly done or would i be able to do it myself? (im allright on the tools but i know little about differentials). thanks

I have fitted a set of 3.27 gears from an EB XR8 into an XD 2.92 LSD diff housing, using the original 2.92's LSD centre.
But I don't know about the 4.11's, haven't done it myself.

Providing the 4.11's are from the same series diff, they will fit. You need to change the crown wheel and pinion.
You will also need to install new pinion bearings and crush spacer and seal, while your there you might aswell change the carrier bearings too.

You'd need a press to do the bearings, then you need to check the backlash, and reshim the carrier if needed.

Probably better off taking it to a diff shop if you've never done one before.

i used to own a nl fairlane that i fitted 4.11's into the 3.23 diff housing. the only difference is the bearing size and pinion length. best to get a diff place to do it. And yes, you will need to change the pinion because diff gears are made in sets of crown wheel and pinions. i hope that answers your question :D
