Gday,
Tonight I installed an EL Ghia combo switch into my GLi, and I cant get the intermittant timing knob to work?? I have the MID (xr6) series BEM, and I ran a wire from the brown/white on the stalk to pin A10 on the BEM (on lower connector), but no matter what setting the stalk dial is on the wipers still opperate at the same intervals... Am I missing something or should I just check the connection on the BEM?

Check the resistance across the 2 wires coming out of the variable stalk, as you turn the knob. If if the resistance doesn't go up or down, the thing is broken.
But they can be taken apart. I've seen a couple where the wire that attaches to the resistance wheel inside the stalk breaks off. Quick solder job will fix that. |

Don't listen to Fordz... Its f**k easy as. 10 mins work.
The EF/EL stalks are very easily taken apart. |

The EF/EL stalks are very easily taken apart. it was only a C*** for me because when i pulled mine apart i had it facing down meaning that all the little bits s**t like the resistor wheel, contacts, ball bearing and s**t fell out before i got a chance to look at it

Don't do it that way, or it could be trouble... I musta been lucky that I took it apart the right way up then. |

Did you have to remove the stalk from the car or is it possible to fix in place? How do you remove the stalk form the car??

Way to resurrect a dead thread,
You probably have to take the steering wheel off, as i wouldn't attempt to fix it in place as its a bit hard to access.

I know it's an old thread, but appreciate the response....
I don't think that I really want to take off the wheel - too much risk for too little gain.... |

Not quite sure what the risk is in taking off the steering wheel?

The risk that I am concerned about is setting off the airbag or something like that.
It may not sound like a risk to some people, but I can't afford to fix it if I break it :) |
