Don't put it back on without getting the head surfaced, or you may end up doing it twice, i've seen it too many times.

Damn straight! do it right the first time and you'll have no hassles! 1 day, two amateurs... easy! Just a lot of time consuming spanner and fiddly work...

I am continuing the head gasket thread in the Tech Doco section. It doesn't look that hard, it's just time consuming.
And yes...you got to get the head sent out and resurfaced. If it is warped you'll just blow another gasket and have to do it again as Walker mentioned. Should be able to do it in 2 days...that's if the head was already sent out and surfaced/checked and such. I am allowing myself 7 days to do the job since I most likely would run into trouble or get some things done to the head. phong =P~ EDIT: and to answer your question...about $1000-1200 for a mechanic to do it. Or about $500 to do it yourself, that would include sending out the head and getting it resurfaced, a VRS kit and nick nacks (glue stuff, oil etc.)

Hi There
Just one more thing if you don't already have it...... Use a good quality 14mm single hex, IMPACT socket for the head bolts, or risk rounding the bolts or cracking a thinner socket. Good Luck |
