Retension the spring?
It's been a long time since I saw the guts of a seatbelt spring assembly....it's one of those coil springs from memory isn't it? My passenger side one doesn't really retract, and need's a kick start to wind itself back up. And it sits loose catching in the door which is a pain. Anyone managed or tried this? |

i think you have to buy a new one or get a working one to replace it...tampering with it might not make it roadworthy? but i guess if you can open and repair it without any notable problems then i guess you can get away with it.
But it is a seat belt...one of the major safety features, so i wouldn't skip on it. phong =P~

Buy a new one your life or a passengers might rely on it.
Secondhand you do not know if the belt has been under severe stress and fail if asked to do it again. Just get a new one and not worry about it failing

Sure its the spring? One of my rears had the side plastic guide of the spool break off, and that was rotating and catching on the webbing and spool.
Occasionally it would jam and the belt would not retract, so I just pulled off the broken bit. It only guides the web onto the centre of the roller, so as long as the webbing is in good condition it should be ok, as it doesn't affect the locking mechanism at all. (no disassembly was required)

also try cleaning all surfaces the belt slides on, once they get a build up of dirt it slows them down, and spray the belt with silione lube, should have it going good again. ba's are comon for it. if not yeah just buy a newie

Just an update.
While I had the passenger seat put (to do the rear window & central locking conversions) I pulled the seatbelt off. Carefully opened her up, and started winding the spring a bit tighter...put it all back together and she's perfect...just like new! |
